I love sparhawk and Kuriks constant bickering, like an old married couple. So, the short version is, if you like quests, swords, true love, magic and knights, read this. This is mitigated in large part because the series is essentially an ensemble piece, and the various stock characters he surrounds himself with Dumb but Good-Hearted Best Friend, Wise Older Companion, Beautiful and Mysterious Enchantress, Cocky Young Thief, etc etc balance out the various encounters.
D The characters are all really well depicted as being different from each other with no characters actually feeling like hot copies of the other and all the characters regardless of rank, or how often they peer, seems to be lacking in three-dimensional characterisation which leads to some great interactions between them and really adds to the feel of the book especially when the characters are in conflict with each other but the come together in order to overcome the obstacles are often thrown in their way!
They created pictures in my head that made me want to learn more and more about their characters.

On the other hand, the characters are archetypically-familiar without being cardboard cutouts, the main character’s just a darling, and even though Eddings’s prose is clunky in places, his ability to juggle multiple strands of plot is a delight to watch on a technical level and just plain interesting on the readerly level.
The characters were fairly flat and predictable stereotypes, more types or caricatures than anything.
Oh, so many uncomfortable moments… JO: The Elene religion, whatever it’s actually called, is practically a functional form of Catholic Christianity transposed into a fantasy realm. The sound quality wddings of sucked, but I’ve read the book in paper several times, so it wasn’t elebium huge deal. If you’re looking for an old-familiar-friend series, give this one a try. There was WAY too much deus ex machina as well. David Eddings’ wife, Leigh Eddings, was an uncredited co-author on many of his early books, but he had later acknowledged that eddinggs contributed to them all.

But I also hate the things that happen here just to fill the pages, because they’re not part of the plot really, and no, they don’t have any effect on the characters. Eddints later switched to writing epic fantasy, a field in which he achieved great success. Which says a lot. The setting here is very detailed and the characters are mostly plausible, even if they do quip back and forth like they’re starring in a sitcom.
Again, it is a straight forward story of knights on a quest that chop things up with their swords as needed, and trust magic to do the rest. Everyone else is a barbarian or a drooling lunatic, or a brainless zombie.
It’s a davic read, potato chip craving that somehow moves beyond. They’re short on time, the queen is dying with every day, but Aphrael only uses her time-altering abilities when they encounter Wargun.

Which is a shame, because there are actually some good ideas here, and once I got into it I found myself actually quite enjoying eddkngs.
