Emily has vengeance on her mind. On the way down the mountain they come on the wreck of the first truck and find their teammates dead. The end was about the winners of the aforementioned final struggle planning for the future and how they should go about things. Meeting friends and not knowing who to trust after such a terrifying ordeal leaves Emily with a complex, but she is brave and plucky, and has an instinct to protect others.

It’s brought up again at another point, later on in the book. Once she is rescued by Garrett and time passes on she develops a longing to protect all of the people that have helped her heal from her time in the mountains. The book was well-written to be sure, but never really delved into the motivations of the characters or provided much of irs explanation for the ever-growing body count.
Just prior to leaving on a road trip I stopped at my local library to get an audiobook that I had just checked online was in. Refresh and try again.

Much better characters but follows kind of the same Scenario? As to be expected, Emily and Garret form a bond that will hopefully take them into the future.
