Otherwise the output impedance is too high and it oscillates. The ESR of the output capacitor will cause loop instability if it is too high or too low.
That would work alright. I will try it with the additional cap. It is essential that the output capacitor meet lm2940ct-5.00 requirements, or oscillations can result.

I can’t find a schematic of it. My camera had a hard time catching the writing so I’ve added labels so you can see what’s printed on it. Hello, All I have is a cap between the output and ground at 22uf. I originally thought my caps were too high in value, adtasheet I saw that the value used was a minimum. Larger values of output capacitance will give improved transient response.

There is another possibility Also, remember the more voltage you have to drop and the more current you want to pull, the hotter the device will run. How’s that for redundancy?
Did you take steps to obtain caps with appropriate ESR? The output capacitor is required to ‘maintain stability’ which probably means to keep it from oscillating, which in turn could cause the fatasheet output readings you are getting.
If you aren’t running very much current, and your Vin isn’t too high, a small clip-on heat sink can significantly reduce the regulator’s temperature. I wonder if this will pose a problem.
Can you let us know what is printed ,m2940ct-5.0 the third line? I picked up some 5V 1A voltage regulators at a shop in town. The cap values are related to the frequency of the noise to be filtered. Thank you for all the input. OK – I see the third line info now! I’m pretty sure Datashest value correlates to the noise frequency, so no, you can’t just “go over” the value and still have the same effect. I believe the data sheets show a 0. What are the caps on the BS2P40 demo board?
Is ths just because datashet the load placed on it due to the lcd? I went digging through my dad’s old junk box and found a 16V, uF electrolytic cap.

Does it have a backlight? I like to put a led on the output for the minimum load, and to show, solidly, that power IS really on.
